How Much Does Kindle Unlimited Pay Per Page in 2026? EbookGPT Guide

Kindle Unlimited pays per page read, not per book sold. See how the KDP Select fund is split in 2026 and what you can do to earn more from each ebook.

How Much Does Kindle Unlimited Pay Per Page in 2026? EbookGPT Guide

Kindle Unlimited does not pay per book sold: it pays per page read. If your ebook is enrolled in KDP Select, you get a share of the Amazon monthly fund in proportion to the pages subscribers actually read.

Your list price does not set that income: what counts is how many pages a reader finished and how many pages the whole program read that month.

Finishing the book is what turns into payment on Kindle Unlimited.

How the KDP Select fund works

Every month Amazon sets aside a fund and announces the amount in the KDP community forum. What each author receives is their share of the pages read across the whole program that month, so the per-page value is not a fixed price: it is the fund divided by all the pages every subscriber read.

The count uses KENPC, a normalized page measure that ignores the reader screen size. It starts at the Start Reading Location, usually chapter 1, and runs to the end of the file. Images, charts and tables count as pages, and only the first read of a page pays: rereading the same passage earns nothing. There is also a ceiling of 3,000 pages per title, per reader.

The program pays for reading, not for catalog: pages nobody opened never enter the account.

The fund in numbers

Bonus paid that same monthUS$ 3.4 million
Total paid to enrolled authorsUS$ 69.4 million

Per-page ratethe fund divided by the month pages read

Note: figures Amazon itself publishes in the monthly KDP community announcements. The per-page rate is not published, it shows up in your royalty report, worked out from that month fund.

What this changes in practice

Because the rate comes from a division, a bigger fund does not guarantee bigger earnings. If the whole program read more pages that month, each page is worth less even with a full fund. That is why tracking your own report matters more than tracking the fund headline.

There is also the monthly KDP Select bonus, paid on top of page reads, with its own criteria and no extra enrolment: any eligible ebook that follows the content guidelines competes for it. Fund and bonus appear separately in the same announcement.

  • Open Reports, compare the month pages read with the rate shown in your statement and write both numbers down.
  • Open chapter 1 with the book promise, because that is where the official count begins.
  • Keep chapters short and finish your blocks, since a reading that stops never becomes a paid page.
  • Plan the catalog as a series: two ebooks the same reader finishes add pages to the same report.

What the program measures is not file size, it is the reading that reached the end.

Writers who aim to be finished win twice: the bonus improves and the report shows exactly where readers give up.

Key idea

The fund is a division, not a promise. The more people finish your ebook, the bigger your share.

Start with your report

The first step is to open Reports and look at pages read, that month rate and where readers stop.

If reading dies early, fix the opening and the chapter length before you write anything more.

With the finished ebook ready in EbookGPT, that fix goes straight into the next title in the series.
